bar none

I sort of made two mis-steps in making these 'monkey bars' that they turned out be more like banana bread than bars. First I forgot to add the sugar and only just remember after I had poured the batter into a (second boo boo here) smaller baking pan so the batter cooked much thicker than bars should.

Monkey Bars or Banana Bread
ingredients:
- about 5 bananas  mashed ripe bananas
- 3/4 cups   packed light-brown sugar
- 1/4 cup   oil
- 1/4 cup   milk
- 2  eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon each baking soda and cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups white whole-wheat flour
- 1 cup  mini chocolate chips

how to:
- heat oven to 350ºF. Line a baking pan with nonstick foil with a little overhand and slightly grease it.
- whisk mashed bananas, sugar, oil, milk, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl until mixed thoroughly. Whisk in flour just until blended; gently stir in 1⁄2 cup of the mini chocolate chips.
-spread batter in prepared pan. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
- Holding foil by ends, lift from pan onto a cutting board. Cut and serve.

 all prepared

whoops forgot the sugar!!! added it last minute and tried my best to mix it in the pan!

saved! now sprinkle white and dark choco chips

 hmmm mmm banana chocolatey!

I still declare this recipe a success even with the mis-steps, the bars or should I say bread were moist even with just a small amount of oil added because of the bananas. Moist banana chocolatey goodness! I like!

beefy buns

Nothing goes well with a big bowl of hot and hearty beef noodle soup than soft and fluffy steamed buns!  This dish reminds me of my childhood fascination of the vibrancy of a busy marketplace. During summer vacation, before going to work, my mom would take us to the market to buy our meals for the day and the corner noodle shop was often than not our main stop. We would order a couple of servings of beef noodles and steamed buns... I would often discreetly watch the people inside the shop - fascinated by the diversity of the patrons coming and going. There are families dinning out for a treat... couples maybe on a date... lone diners and working people like my mom dressed in office uniforms. Our take away package seems to come too quick for me to enjoy my time people watching and making my self dizzy going round and round on the bar stools. With a plop the server would hand us bulging bags full of hot soup and that would be the signal ending my market adventure as my mom wo...
